Personal statement

The greatest moment of my life was when I received the Hinrich Foundation scholarship to attend Vietnamese-German University (VGU) for a Master of Science in the GPEM program.

While studying at VGU, every experience and challenge helped me to become stronger, allowing me to reach new levels of achievement. Looking back, studying forced me to face challenges and realize how to overcome them. Working on projects with international students taught me how to communicate in a multicultural environment and exposed me to new perspectives.  I found that college was not only the best place to grow academically, but holistically as well.

During my internship at the chemical company Myanmar Pou Chen Company Limited, I saw the importance of communication skills in a professional setting firsthand.  In fact, this experience inspired me to build on skills gained in college and take courses such as cross culture communication via the Hinrich Foundation. At work, I may have the title of supervisor or manager, but the only thing I truly care about is being a good leader – and communication is the key to effective leadership.

After the program, I look forward to deepening my understanding of the work, learning adaptability and problem-solving, and broadening my professional skills. Through this growth I hope to find answers to the big questions of my life and gain a greater understanding of the world.
